4 of us turned up for a bit of bank maintenance and over 5 hrs quite surprising what we achieved.
A bit of loping of willows cutting branches and shoveling of several steps and all looked good.

Sun was out and temperature was about 11.5 , olives being blown up river and a trout was rising to take a few.
Water was 0.67 on the Usk gauge and running lovely and clean.

A few coffees later and Welsh cakes we called it a day.

Arrived early this morning with a calm mist over the fields.Knew the river was struggling to drop to an appreciable level for some quality fishing.

Still the river was just over our gauge and clarity about 2ft but with a lot of dirt suspension in the river to.
Fished hard at the top of the beat then fished down and back up again.Dropped down to the bottom beat not a fish seen or heard.Probably still to high for us down there.

Saw an early hatch of sedges with a few olives to but only one trout stirred covered it with a Jingler but no offers.
Kingfishers out,Curlews calling again early morning and a nice Spotted Woodepecker made an apperance to.
Warm sun on your face made a change

Excellent. Thanks for the update and photos. Being on the river at this time of year it must feel like you're there waiting for the moment it comes to life. So exciting...

Have been out several times and covering fish but still blanks.
Same happened today but while I was fishing tucked in by the trees an otter came past within several feet porpoising.

After a minute or so a good size lamprey came past swimming eraticaly then I noticed why most of its tail had been eaten away.

    Back out again soon.

There was a lovely mist coming off the river early *this morning and probably a good 80 plus geese fighting over the fields.

I really enjoy watching the geese in "V" formation a sure sign of autumn is on the way.
Even the buzzards were out early *screeching above the trees.

Was quite cold on the hands and early in the week there was a partial good rise of water. So was hoping fish might of been on the take, like he'll they were
Fishing a lie I had a double type of pluck to the small fly and covered it again but no further takes were had.

Just had a rattle on the rod but the fish did not like the little purple number on the bottom as they jumped out

River was big and brown yesterday when we had our annual get together on the bank of the Usk.

River was only a few feet off the hut.Placed a stick in and dropped 14" when I left.Probably going up again now with more rain falling.

Thought I would use my 10ft Vampire up tide with a 60z gripper and 2 droppers on the tippet
