Seems to be a widespread issue across most of the West Wales rivers, this lack of members. Many established clubs were a "dead-man's-boots" situation, extensively long waiting lists to join, now everyone seems to advertise membership availability. Sad state!

I don't think this is an issue only in West Wales. There seems to be a continuing decline of interest in all forms of river fishing, coarse as well as game, throughout the UK. Perhaps we are now seeing the consequences of the instant success, and large fish, offered by commercial stillwaters. Perhaps young anglers who start in this way find it hard to understand the appeal of rivers where success is rarer and the fish often fewer and smaller?

No real idea what to say here, we were a dead mans shoes club at Llandeilo, 16 year waiting list in 1990, I got straight on after being a junior member for 10 years. Not as many young anglers as there used to be? Rural depopulation? The local rugby and cricket clubs don't seem to have as many adult teams as they used to, and one or two local clubs in West Wales have folded.
    Anybody interested in joining?

It's possibly then a reflection on the declining runs of sea trout we all experienced in years gone by. Most of us of the elder generation were introduced to the capture of migratories by previous enthusiastic generations. Sadly with the demise, we are now in a position where there's nothing to introduce the next generations to, hence this drop-off of youngsters enjoying our sport of days-gone-by.

Possibly weatherman, in fact probably. Youngsters don't seem to enjoy time outdoors as much as they used to, and I think its a decline in a lot of other sports, bumped into a mate of mine the other day, his golf club membership is declining year on year. Anybody know how wildfowling clubs are doing for membership?

If the Tywi was back to 6000 + sewin a year, many anglers would return and youngsters would be more enthused to take up fishing.

As far as I am aware the declared catch of sewin on the Tywi in 2017 was on 877 ..... Any draft figures for 2018 yet?
