Just back from a long weekend on the Rheidol.
Unfortunatly not much to report as they have generated every night, all night.:(:(:(
It can be very disheartening sometimes when anglers have paid for a day ticket, settled on a pool waiting for it to go dark only to see the river come up at quite an alarming rate....
Still very slow at the moment, but a few fish have started to come out when the levels are right.;)

They stopped generating for the first time in 2 weeks yesterday morning, and the river dropped to night fishing level.

Unfortunately they restarted it about 4 ish.:(

That's the end of my 2 week holiday in Aberystwyth.
I cant understand why Mrs Bungle complained about all the rain we had,i had great time....:D:D:D

Hi Ian

was that the one fish - for how much effort?

My father used to reckon on a fortnight per salmon back in the 70s

Phil,
Ive been lucky this holiday on the Rheidol, 3 grilse caught and a few seatrout to my rod.:)

My fishing effort has not been as high as you may think, with an hour or so in the mornings before the wife gets up,and the same in the evenings. In a normal year(not so much rain or genny water)i would normally only fish at night.
I would say your father was about right on average.:)

Sounds like you have got it just right!

Have a map with all the fish he had - and a newspaper cut-out of what I think is the biggest - an 18lber

If I remember the story correctly my brother hooked it in Hermitage worming and it broke him. Dad was spinning and managed to hook the line, tie it on to his and land the fish.

Believe it or not!!

Tight lines

River level report

River level report

Generating water Friday night until about midnight..no fishing for me..:(

Saturday saw the level drop off completely to ideal night fly conditions..

The annual night owl competition was won with a couple of small sewin for just over 2 lb.:)..Nothing again for me.

Spent the weekend fishing in the salt just off the Rheidol/Ystwyth harbour, there was several salmon showing at high water last night.Hopefully these will run when we get the next proper rise in water..:)

PS.. Superb Bass fishing in Aber at the moment.;)

Rheidol and Ystwyth

Rheidol and Ystwyth

Hi Bungle

Had 1 day on each a couple of weeks ago

Ystwyth stuffed with sewin to 6lb and occasional salmon - and that is where they stayed, too low and clear!

Didnt see a fish on the Rheidol.

So we went to Gromain on the Wye last Sunday for some therapy - 31 fish to 2 rods all on dries, trout to 1lb, grayling to 1.5lb

Thats fishing!!!

Great stuff Phil.....I used to fish the dries a lot, don't think i ever had that many though..

Hoping to have a final bash at the Rheidol salmon this weekend.Just hoping the rain forecast tomorrow puts it into proper flood..
Always a chance of fresh fish with sea lice even high up the valley.:)

The river was at the lowest level that I've seen it this year, cant believe its only a week since it was into the fields..

For once i was glad when they started to generate at about 9.30 this morning, putting an extra 18 inches on the gauge.
Followed the water down for a couple of hours and nailed a grilse on the rapala...
