Hi There. This is the first time I have ever been on a fishing forum. Reason being is the worrying decline of seatrout runs in recent years. I have been fishing for seatrout for over 30 years and realise the runs of yesteryear will not be coming back. However it's getting worse every year and this year has been a disaster on NW rivers. Many of my friends haven't caught a fish yet and haven't even seen a fish. No wonder there are so few fishing for these fish today. I fish a beat where 10 years ago anglers would queue for a night fish. The past 2 years I have seen a total of 5 anglers which tells a story. Climate change could be one of the problems as I noticed several years ago fish are running later and later. Every year my friends catch fresh seatrout in October salmon fishing. With this in mind I would like the season to be as it used to be, starting in May and finishing 15th October. Look forward t hearing from fellow anglers with their views.

I haven’t had a sea trout at night all last season & still yet to catch one this season - only managed sprods!
Like you I very rarely see any at all, unlike 5 yrs ago where fish would show right through the night on most nights from July onwards…
I‘ve fished 7 times at night in the last 2 weeks & I can’t say I’ve seen one show let alone catch one.
I thought I’d broke my duck last weekend when I got a 3.5lb brownie in the net.
Still time yet 🤞🎣
If it carries on like this pattern, in the next year or two I can see me throwing the towel in…
But I love being out at night - but do need to know there’s fish about to keep me motivated.

welcome to the forum 😀

My worse season for years. I fish the Lune, Ribble and Hodder with a preference for the Lune as noticed Ribble fish tend to run later. The previous 2 years were'nt too bad as caught majority of fish during the day on fly with extra water. N
ever saw any other anglers and wonder if some seatrout anglers think you only catch fish at night. Normally I book a week on the Lune in July every year however the last 3 years the best runs have been in June so June it is next year.
I belong to the The Lune River Trust and we check the spawning becks after November and spawning has been amazing on one particular beck for the past 2 years with large numbers of fish. When I saw the video of these fish you'd think it was Alaska. Many were commenting " where did these fish come from ". Again, I have always say they are coming later and later.
I can count myself lucky as have great memories from the early 2000s when I caught fish up to 12lbs, those were the days.
Anyway, this year my fish of the season was a 10lb cock salmon on light trout tackle fishing a size 14 Black Pennell so can count myself lucky.
So now it's hibernation till next season.
