Here's a river I didn't expect to see here!
Yesterday went to fish the ebb tide of the Adur estuary, near Brighton. Target species were Thick-Lipped Mullet, heavily feeding bread to get them going and light lining crust.
Right at low tide, this is what Lionel caught:
Unbelievable, a personal best for him, 5lb, on BREAD!!!! Legered crust on the bottom. It's not as if large numbers of sea trout run the Adur, unlike the neighbouring Ouse.
The fish is a typical Sussex sea trout, short and deep. Didn't fight particularly well, either, and had about 30 sea lice on it, and some scrapes on the belly and a chunk of missing skin near the tail.
The sandeel come out here at slack tide, at we are going to check this out with fly fishing in the evening - reckon that if we don't connect with some sea trout we will at least get some bass! There is even enough space for the double hander.
