The river is at drought level, but there is always hope! Someone posted a video on Facebook this week of a lone fish slipping into the tail of a tidal pool near Rhuddlan.

anyone been out much yet? Had a session on Elwy down from Port y Ddol but was very low was expecting it to be higher after storms, should of gone lower down river! Saw thousands of smolt in pool and a lot trying to get up the waterfall which was an amazing sight see if you can see them in the video :)

They look very small, may be parr instead of smolts?
I had an hour on the lower river Friday night. Was quiet but did see a couple of sea trout jump.

My session was spoiled when I realised my phone was under water because I hadn't zipped the waterproof pocket on the waders shut. I was wearing waist waders so the pocket was low down at groin level.🙈

I've spent over £300 on a new phone but I've lost all the photos on the old phone. Lesson learned, now backing up new phone on Google One.

I've heard of a few sea trout being caught up river on spinner, so looks like the rain has moved the early fish up river. I hope to catch my first sea trout next weekend when we have some decent night tides.

Ah nightmare, I've just ordered some waist waders for summer so will remember that! I was on Dee yesterday (saw nothing or any movement) but fell over as previously the felt had come off boots and I only had studs which wasn't enough and the water flooded in chest waders. Lucky I have a lanyard cover for phone but was worried about my car key but was okay in the end just had to strip off and dry stuff in the sun lucky I was in a secluded spot 😅 will check tides what river you thinking and lower or higher this weekend? Thanks

Tell you what with my beloved Dwyfor holiday site on its last year I be interested to see what the Ogwen is like nowadays as I only started sea trout fishing on that river and basically did a lot of blanking in the name of learning but I did catch a fair few salmon on spinner

I've heard the junction is a good place not been down that low as my membership only covers RandA waters. I'm glad to hear about Elwy though as most of my ST have come from there lower down as like a good streamy run for the fly. Need to work out my technique for Clwyd really as quite close quarter work might take little spinner rod in future. cheers

Fished with a pal last night. Quiet as a graveyard, never saw a fin move. Pal saw a couple of jumpers lower down beat, but no sign of runners.
Only 4 sewin in book, all under 2lb.

Considered fishing Bodfari last night but opted for Conwy upper G. Couple of small fish moving in Crooked early evening, arrived TYC at 9 - 7 or 8 fish jumping. Some 3-4lbs. Landed a 1lbs fish before dark in the Conwy junction, moved to the tail at dark to target the jumpers. 3 good knocks early on, then went dead until 1am. Headed home as it was getting cold and damp…. looks like Clwyd had a small rise last night. Will head out mid week to hit mid river, no surrender….

I went for a sweaty walk down the river last night...it always feels a bit odd wearing shorts under waders.
Not much showing but got off the mark with a couple of very silver small ones, 3/4lb or smaller. Both on a small Dunkeld fished off a full floater. Water felt warm so I'll leave it tonight....will be too humid anyway!

I've put a lot more effort into fishing Llyn Brenig for trout this season. At 1200' and 920 acres, it's a big water with great scenery. Its got a reputation for good top of the water fishing, and I do enjoy fishing a dry fly, particularly when casting to rising fish.

I caught thus 5.5lb beauty in the heatwave last week. I saw it rise and it took the fly on second cast. Fin perfect, it must have been in a while.

Coincidentally, I caught my second ever jack pike from Brenig last week. They can be caught to over 20lb by pikers in the winter.

I said the scenery was nice.

I’ve been for a few daytime walks along various stretches of the Elwy over the last few weeks, throwing small rapala type lures into any deeper water and under trees etc. I was very surprised to see good numbers of sea trout emerge from the shadows to chase the lure. There were some quite large (around 4lb) fish up as far as near Llanfair TH. I was very surprised to see how far these fish had progressed up the system given the water levels. It’s amazing to see fish emerge from seemingly dead water, then disappear again. Catching them is a different matter though! Very encouraging to see them though.

Yea I remember a time when I felt like I had such an advantage on those fishing worm when on a falling water with the right color that my small brown trout rapala cast under trees just couldn’t fail to catch. Like you say I’ve had many a fish follow one in clear water but they would often shy away last second. Caught my first salmon on the Ogwen however in such conditions, albeit not a fresh fish it was a clonker.
