I drew attention in an earlier thread to unlawful forum posts made by Mr Geoff Littler (Teal Blue and Long John Silver) in the thread entitled “I’ll Give You A Shilling For Them”, in the hope of gaining a modicum of redress, or at least recognition of this infringement.
Mr Littler’s false, libellous, defamatory and malicious allegations against me, John Gray, have broken forum rules and British Law.
To recap, in the thread entitled “I’ll Give You A Shilling For Them", Mr Littler alleged that “John Grey once sent me some small trebles many many years ago and I lost a salmon while fishing with one at Wetheral. They were absolute junk which he later confessed to me that he got from the Far East. One hook point flattened completely against the shank and one hook point straightened out. The river keeper at Wetheral who was stood by my side when I lost the fish saw the fish and agreed that it was over 30lbs. I have never and can never forgive John Gray”
He followed this up by stating, “It made me feel physically sick. John Gray's response was bloody pathetic. I didn't expect anything from him materialistic but I didn't think a more sincere apology would not gave gone amiss. The fish after all, was too easily lost on completely inferior hooks that he supplied. All so that he could make an extra ten bob per packet on them”
The first highlighted sentence is entirely untrue. The second is absolute nonsense, since it is not possible to "make an extra ten bob a packet" on something you have never sold. Indeed, you are likely to make far less if you give the hooks as a gift!
I note that no action has been taken to rectify this contravention of forum rules. Indeed, there has been no acknowledgement of it by the forum members, owners or administrators.
It would seem that the rules, and the law, are there to be broken.
In response to my earlier post, one member expressed the opinion that forum members had no wish to get involved in what was, in his view, a private dispute.
This is not a private dispute. This is a very public matter. It became public when Mr Littler made use of this public platform, read by many people, to publish his incredible allegations against me – allegations which are untrue, offensive and malicious. Indeed, the definition of libel is “a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation.” I might add that I place a high value on reputation. Others, evidently, think such things have no worth.
That same member appeared to voice the opinion of forum members in hoping to “maintain the uniquely friendly atmosphere that we find here”.
Should we conclude then that forum members are content to turn a blind eye to a bit of crude illegality; that it is OK for forum rules, and the law of the land, to be openly broken, with the full support of the membership; that no member should be held to account, no matter what they might say or whom they might offend on this uniquely friendly forum?
Is there nobody here prepared to stand up and say to the culprit, “Hey, you can’t say things like that on this forum. It’s not right. It’s not true.”
If not, you, forum members, continue to be complicit in the whole sorry affair.
