Time to start, I went yesterday day time - trout fishing. Picked up 2 little bars of silver - 6" sea trout smolts and they looked ready to go downstream. I did hear of a 20lb salmon caught 2 weeks ago below Bangor, lovely picture as well.
That’s pretty small for time of year and certainly school type fishClose second place last night 😁 I hooked a sea trout in the tail of a pool. It came out of the water so I had a good view. Stayed on few more seconds and then gone. So they are moving through and it was a bright silver fish around a pound and a half. Half inch copper tube Silver Stoat. I was 2 miles below Bangor
I missed the last open day I've seen them advertised now and then hopefully get to the next one and yes the sea trout are underestimated on the Dee but you need to find them!Once had the privilege of viewing the fish traps on the Dee and the sea trout size was astonishing as it probably more known for salmon
Was thinking of going tomorrow evening. Dont think I will bother now as its a 140 mile round trip. Then again I just might hahaI’ve been out the last couple of evenings for a couple hours until dark, more to see some new beats than anything
I went to the boat yesterday, lovely stretch of water but I didn’t see anything, not even a trout rise.
Monday night I went below dongray hall where the clwyedog comes in(that was a waste of time, the track down to it is terrible and the car park is so overgrown) and then I went to turn o Dee,again didn’t see a thing.
There has been ST caught higher up at Corwen and beyond at night time this week though, including last night.
I’ll try and go out towards the weekend again
it amazing how many are being caught high up on Dee, I was going this week but its too hot! Anyone been tracking water temp been 18-20 every time I've gone but only stayed till 10pm. Will go mid next week. There was 2 ST caught on Monday from Berwyn arms and 2 Tuesday night from above Corwen.
I went to the Clwyd Tuesday night (what an experience that was) fished, well walked and waded through 8ft nettles on the green bank beat from the top car park to almost the bottom then walked back and went home. Was so overgrown you need power tools to get anywhere near the river for the majority of it.
Was on the lower Conwy last night,4 of us went, saw a few small ST splashing and I got one that was barely 1/2lb and so did a friend, another friend had a couple of brownies, was hard going!
Considering river options for this eve, how far down the Conwy were you fishing? What size strimmer blade do you suggest I fit for the Clwyd? As much as I sometimes love fishing the Clwyd, it can be really hard going, especially at night. There was 2 ST caught on Monday from Berwyn arms and 2 Tuesday night from above Corwen.
