I’ve got the agility in a #6 weight for a river I fish in Penrith, it’s a great bit of kit (I went with it as I fully expect to bust a rod on the overhanging branches at some point, haven't yet tho)

Maybe have a look at a second hand Greys. I have had a few and they’re not bad at all! GR60 has a nice action for sea trout

 

I have no issues with getting another Greys rod pre owned at all.. a bit out of the loop with rods etc and was wondering if any of the lower end rods were comparible..

 

I had a cast of a 9' 6wt Greys GR60 and it was a nice medium fast action.
I've had some decent Daiwa fly rods over the years, check out EBay for secondhand bargains.

 

Sharpes Gordon or Gordon 2 are very nice rods, one at auction

I've been using a sigma for a last two seasons and it's done the job.
I don't think I would recommend it as a replacement go to rod though.
Definitely spend a few more quid and get something better second hand.
Lewis has just got an agility 2 but I'm not sure whether he's had the chance to try it in anger yet though. I'm sure he'll let you know his thoughts when he has ?

You didn't say what your budget was by the way.
I was in a similar position before Christmas. I wanted to get a better main outfit and relegate the sigma to second rod status.
I didn't want to spend over £100 on the rod because I needed a reel and line as well.
Ended up paying £100 for an ex display guideline stoked from John Norris.
Only had a few minutes on grass(no comments please SteveG?) with it so far but I can't fault it, definitely a major upgrade from the Sigma.
I should point out that I mention John Norris quite a lot in regards to stuff I buy. I'm in no way affiliated to them but I only work two minutes from their shop and they have always bent over backwards to help me when I've needed something.
I have shopped there almost exclusively for over thirty years and recommend them purely on the quality of service I've received ?

Yeah, the lowther is a challenging little river but it has some fine trout.
Individual world champion Howard Croston cut his teeth there.

 

Yeah there are a few surprising fish but you have to work hard for them mate, and the fact my mate does breakfast on arrival then dinner break is a bonus ?

 

Use the agility 2 in a 7wt fantastic rod couldn't recommend it enough mate ?

 

If they have any in stock then the John Norris own brand P3 range are excellent rods and dirt cheap. I would highly recommend them for pretty much any species you may be fishing for

 

A good friend of mine used the Airflo Delta, he liked that rod, caught his fair share of sea trout. An advantage is that there are plenty of spares should the unfortunate happen to any of the sections. (No affiliation to Airflo)

 

I finally put the guideline stoked through its paces this afternoon.
I found it to be a nice rod and am pleased with it.
No too fast but seems to have enough backbone for the job.
Will update once the rod has a couple of fish to its name ?

wount go far with a vapa mate, medium fast action but not a stiff poker if you can get it for cheap will be a cracking rod ?

I bought a 10ft #7 Vapa, well it was a suggested Christmas present . I've yet to try it but it was the action and value for money that I went for.

 

The VAPA is £70..

 

That's about £100 cheaper than a new one, what else would you get for £70

Spoke with the seller and asked if it was a 3 piece or 4 piece as it wasnt stated. He said it was a 4 piece, i asked why only 3 pieces in his pictures, he told me piece 2 had snapped so was being sold with only 3 pieces!

Honestly mate them Shakespeare agility 2 rods in 9ft6 or 10ft for a 7wt are the real deal brand new for £60 can't speak highly enough of mine and I've put it threw its paces over the last fortnight or so with 45 fish using heavy lures, it never missed a beat!, decent Cork and whippings. Smooth finish nice solid action Honestly a bargain ?

The GR60s are about a ton new now (depending on length/weight). I have a 9ft6 8 wt and it’s no slouch at all and should suit most casting styles. Very nice action for sea trout

 

John Norris' own brand ni1 single handed rods are only £95.00 Its gotta be worth a call to them and see if they have any. They sometimes have promotions and throw in a free fly line. The rod are fantastic. The lines are very much budget

 

On this forum's "parent" site many members have dabbled on the Maxcatch website. There are quite a few recommending the Maxcatch rods advertised along with their reels & lines. Apparently, very good copies of top of the range equivalents.

Just out of interest, how much is a fortune?

 

I use a Shakespeare Sigma Supra 10' rated #6. A beautiful through action and great with WF8 lines for short range. I have taken many sea trout over 8lbs with it and a 14.5lb salmon. Value for money!
