Time to start, I went yesterday day time - trout fishing. Picked up 2 little bars of silver - 6" sea trout smolts and they looked ready to go downstream. I did hear of a 20lb salmon caught 2 weeks ago below Bangor, lovely picture as well.

Sea trout are tricky on the Dee and don’t always conform to what we think is normal. It’s early but the big sea trout appear next month, never caught one yet but they have tormented me the last 3 years 😂

yes always felt that so I do tend to fish a hybrid technique in early evening targeting big resident brown trout also and/or Salmon. I've only hit a shoal twice bottom of St David's and above Horseshoe in mid summer and all caught on slow teal and silver so you have to be in the right spot at right time!

ha nothing technical I just adapt the 3 fly downstream spider/wet with sometimes a double hook stoats tail on point, sea-trout fly on middle dropper and then a trout wet fly on top dropper to cover all bases :) I've actually found two Montana's of varying size have caught the most ST which was something a fisher on the River Usk tipped me on as I had only ever used stripping in lakes.

The Dee is currently very low, flow is still good in places. Fly life is good, plenty of Olives, midges and a lot of Crane flies about last Friday. Sweet FA on the fishing front, the Swallows are turning up and I saw the first one last Friday. I was out above Erbistock just over a week ago and managed two small brown trout, I found a Brook Lamprey in the shallows and I have never seen one before. I also saw a Dipper on this stretch, not the first time either.

fished below Llangollen a few times was really nice. The last session some serious hatches but still no bigger fish rising and still catching grayling on the nymph's although trying to avoid! Tried a few bigger flies on the downstream but only a few hit and runs by a few bigger trout. I think I might try a salmon fly soon....

I was out on the river yesterday and saw a fish, head and shoulders so I went back in the evening to fish. There was 16” on and clarity was around two foot. At that height the amount of water available is greatly reduced as the wading is too deep for me. Not a touch and there was only evidence of one other angler as the banks are overgrown. There were lots of the small yellow up wing flies on the water. It’s dropping fast today and so is the Lune and I’m stuck repairing a leaking fill valve on a toilet and then cooking the Sunday dinner. Wednesday night can’t come quick enough 😂

Hi Guys,
I never come on here, usually stick to the salmon forum but equally I’ve not really posted much on there recently 🤦‍♂️
There has been a couple of decent ST caught this last week, one of 6lb 4.5lb 2.5lb as high up as Corwen and low down as Chirk
I spent a night just below carrog Monday but didn’t see or hear anything all night
I’m going to try below Bangor tonight if the wind drops,I went to have a look at the newbridge beat yesterday which looks ok also but finding them on the Dee is very difficult, there’s only one beat I’ve ever discovered that’s been really good and unfortunately the club doesn’t have access to it anymore
I’ve never bothered night fishing below Chirk/newbridge area yet so I’m hoping there might be some undiscovered pools somewhere down there 🤣 here’s to hoping, good luck of anyone is out

I’ve been out the last couple of evenings for a couple hours until dark, more to see some new beats than anything
I went to the boat yesterday, lovely stretch of water but I didn’t see anything, not even a trout rise.

Monday night I went below dongray hall where the clwyedog comes in(that was a waste of time, the track down to it is terrible and the car park is so overgrown) and then I went to turn o Dee,again didn’t see a thing.

There has been ST caught higher up at Corwen and beyond at night time this week though, including last night.

I’ll try and go out towards the weekend again

Was thinking of going tomorrow evening. Dont think I will bother now as its a 140 mile round trip. Then again I just might haha

I went out yesterday evening to Chirk till it got dark, water was perfect,I didn’t see a fish!

Sunday I was out on the newbridge beat, similar story

A friend of mine fished pen y lan yesterday and didn’t see anything either

I’m not aware of anything that’s been caught either except a couple of salmon seen on BYP over the weekend.

Good luck if your out, they must be somewhere

There was 2 ST caught on Monday from Berwyn arms and 2 Tuesday night from above Corwen.

I went to the Clwyd Tuesday night (what an experience that was) fished, well walked and waded through 8ft nettles on the green bank beat from the top car park to almost the bottom then walked back and went home. Was so overgrown you need power tools to get anywhere near the river for the majority of it.

Was on the lower Conwy last night,4 of us went, saw a few small ST splashing and I got one that was barely 1/2lb and so did a friend, another friend had a couple of brownies, was hard going!

it amazing how many are being caught high up on Dee, I was going this week but its too hot! Anyone been tracking water temp been 18-20 every time I've gone but only stayed till 10pm. Will go mid next week.

Clwyd is terrible most of the stiles are broken needs a work party or two. I lost so many flies which I had brought my 6ft rod 😂
